Rescue Company Five
Jim Roth serves as the current Captain of the Rescue Company. He has held this position five times in the past. Jim has also served as Chief of the Department twice, in 1986-87 and most recently in 2008 and has held the rank of Captain, 1st Lt. and 2nd Lt in Engine Company Four. He has been a member of the department since 1974.
Jim is employed by the North Shore-LIJ Health System as a Coordinator of Network Emergency Management. Working there per diem since 1992 and coming on board full time in 2005. During this time, he has been responsible for overseeing and instructing the EMT and Paramedic training programs. Prior to joining the health system full time, Jim was a supervisor for Nassau County Police Department’s Emergency Ambulance Bureau. He retired from that position in 2005. Graduating from Empire State College with a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management, Jim also holds a Master’s Degree in Community Health Education from Adelphi University. Jim attained his EMT certification in 1975, his EMT Critical Care in 1976 and Paramedic certification in 1992.
With almost 37 years of experience in the fire and EMS services, Jim holds numerous instructor certifications including New York State Department of Health EMS Bureau Certified Instructor Coordinator, American Heart Association Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor, National Disaster Life Support Instructor, Advanced HazMat Life Support Instructor and PreHospital Trauma Life Support Instructor. He has also been designated as an American Heart Association Training Center Faculty for the North Shore-LIJ Health System in the BCLS/ACLS/PALS disciplines.
Jim is married with two children. His daughter, Katherine, is a graduate of Villanova University Class of 2009 and his son James, also a member of the Department and a recent EMT graduate, is a member of Scranton University’s class of 2012 |
