Town Approves Law Requiring Snow Removal around Fire Hydrants

Wednesday, November 16, 2011 

The Town of North Hempstead last night approved amendments to Local Law, Chapter 49, titled ‘Snow Removal, Snow Emergencies and Street Cleaning’.  By unanimous vote, The Town Council enacted amendments proposed by The Fire Advisory Council*.

The new law requires ‘every owner, lessee, tenant, occupant, or other person in charge of any property within the town, except one or two family dwellings, adjacent to which there is a fire hydrant to remove the snow and ice from around the hydrant for a distance of two feet, and between the sidewalk and curb, and to keep the fire hydrant free from snow and ice throughout the winter, within four hours after snow has ceased to fall.’ 

The provision further describes penalties up to a $350 fine and payment to the town for costs incurred to remove snow from non-compliant property owners.

The Pink Heals Tour 2011 is all about "Supporting women, raising awareness" about all women's cancer. If you know someone who has cancer or is a cancer survivor, invite them to these events to sign the trucks.

 

The Manhasset Women's Coalition Against Breast Cancer (MWCABC), in cooperation with the Manhasset-Lakeville and Plandome Fire Departments, will be welcoming a national organization of firefighters known as the "Pink Heals" to the Manhasset Community on September 19, 2011. The "Pink Heals" organization is comprised of firefighters who volunteer their time to travel the country in pink fire gear and on pink fire trucks to lend their support in the fight against women's cancers. They are coming to Manhasset to support the MWCABC's Pink Fire Truck Wellness Fair

This communication shall serve as an advisory that the Nassau County Department of Health in cooperation with the Nassau County Department of Public Works will be conducting mosquito control application, with the purpose of lowering mosquito populations and preventing disease transmissions,  via aerial spraying over Nassau County beginning the week of Monday, September 12, 2011, weather permitting.

Hurricane Damages

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today provided advice to New Yorkers on what to do if they suffered property damage from Hurricane Irene. 

  

"The days following a natural disaster can be confusing and stressful, but it is important for those who have suffered property damage to file an insurance claim as quickly as possible to help protect their financial future," Governor Cuomo said. 

  

Benjamin Lawsky, Superintendent of the Department of Financial Services, who oversees the State Insurance Department, said, "We will do everything we can to help people who suffered damage from the storm recover and get their lives back on track as quickly as possible. The purpose of insurance is to help people rebuild and we will be working to see that process does as smoothly as possible."

President Declares Disaster For New York

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency  (FEMA) announced that federal aid has been made available to the State of New York to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by Hurricane Irene beginning on August 26, 2011, and continuing.

The President's action makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Albany, Delaware,  Dutchess, Essex, Greene, Schenectady, Schoharie, and Ulster counties.

Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured or underinsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
